The Olympic Club was originally established in 1860 and is the oldest sports club in the United States. The Lake Course was built in 1924 and was laid out in a joint effort by Willie Watson and Sam Whiting. The Olympic Club is one of the game's toughest championship venues and has hosted numerous U.S. Opens, most recently the 2012 edition. No 54-hole leader has ever closed out a Open at Olympic, which is testament to the challenging layout.
